Kidnappers of US tourist in Uganda in Custody

Multiple suspects are in custody tonight, in connection with the kidnapping of an American tourist, Kimberly Sue Endicott and her Ugandan safari guide, Jean-Paul Remezo (Winsor & Pannell, 2019). Ugandan officials are reporting the perpetrators involved in the abduction of the pair are thought to be illegal fish traders and ivory smugglers (CBS News).
The “bucket list” safari turned into a nightmare for Endicott, when she and her guide were ambushed by four gunmen while on a game drive April 2 in southwestern Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park (Winsor & Pannell, 2019). After five days of captivity in the Democratic Republic of Congo the two were freed Sunday by the collaborative efforts of Ugandan and US law enforcement agencies (CBS News).
Ugandan authorities confirmed the suspects had plans to kidnap tourists for some time, but what is unclear, were Americans their prime target (Mukhtar, Kriel, & Ntale, 2019)? The investigation is ongoing, with more arrests expected in the coming days (Winsor & Pannell, 2019).
